Falls on the Upper Chattahoochee River

These smaller falls are located near the sources of the Chattahoochee River. They can be reached by going to Horse Trough Falls and following the trail along the left side of the Chattahoochee. The trail is deliberately not kept up and it can be a rough walk. About a half mile along the trail, you can scale the hill to the base of these falls. The trail passes by the top of the falls and they are pictured to the left, but reaching the base is a challenge because the hill is very steep. I had my feet slide out from me and, had I not been holding a tree branch with both hands at the time, I would have slid quite some distance with nothing to stop my slide but the rocks at the base of the falls.

These falls pass through a very narrow channel as the fall, creating a real foam effect and the entire river passes through a trench about a foot wide just past the falls. It is quite interesting to view. In addition, there is a beautiful natural cave to the left of the falls and you can see part of it in the picture above. This is a great thinking spot and I doubt you will find anyone but yourself visiting it.
